PaliAnswers is published by the Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy (PIPD). This page explains exactly what the tool records, what it does not, and what choices you have.
The short version
You do not need an account, and we never ask who you are. We keep anonymous records of what is searched so the editorial team can see which claims people are looking for and which searches come up empty. Nothing that identifies you is stored alongside those records.
Measurement by Google Tag Manager is off until you accept it. If you decline, or simply ignore the banner, nothing is ever requested from Google and no cookies are set.
What we record ourselves
For each search, the tool stores the text of the search, which response it matched, how confident the match was, how long it took, and a rotating anonymous session identifier that lets us tell one visit apart from another. That identifier is not linked to any name, email, account, or advertising profile, and we make no attempt to work out who you are.
We use this for one purpose: improving the corpus. It tells the editorial team which claims are being encountered in the wild and which searches find nothing, so gaps can be filled.
Search text is kept for 90 days and then permanently removed by an automated nightly job, leaving only anonymous counts. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with third parties.
Google Tag Manager
If you accept, the site loads Google Tag Manager (container GTM-MM4B2ZSS), which PIPD uses to measure how the tool is used overall — pages viewed, searches run, and whether a search found an answer. As part of this, Google may set cookies in your browser and will receive your IP address and browser details.
We do not use it to build advertising profiles and we do not sell or share your data. It is loaded only after you choose to accept, and never before.
Your choice is remembered in your own browser, not on our servers. You can change it at any time using the "Cookie choice" link in the footer of any page. Choosing Decline removes the tags on your next page load; to clear cookies already set, use your browser's own cookie settings. A tracker-blocking browser extension will also stop it loading, and the tool works normally without it.
What we never do
We do not require an account to use the tool, and we never ask who you are in order to search. We do not build advertising or behavioural profiles. We do not sell, rent, or trade any data. We do not attempt to re-identify anonymous records. The only personal detail we ever hold is an email address you have chosen to give us, described below.
Signing up for updates
Giving us your email address is entirely optional, and the tool works fully without it. If you use the signup form, on the homepage or at /subscribe/, we use the address to send updates about PaliAnswers and Communicating Palestine, and for nothing else.
The form is operated on our behalf by Brevo, our email provider, which stores the address and the fact that the form was submitted, and may receive your IP address as part of that submission. We also record which link or campaign brought you to the form, so we can tell what is drawing people to the tool. We never pass your address to anyone else.
Using the signup form contacts two more services, whether or not you submit it. Brevo serves the form's own code, so Brevo receives a request from your browser; on /subscribe/ it also serves the form's styling and fonts. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the form is being used by a person rather than an automated script; to do that it examines signals from your browser during your visit, and it is used for nothing else. On /subscribe/ both load as soon as the page opens. On the homepage they load only once you start filling in the form, by clicking or tapping into it. Neither is loaded anywhere else, and neither is affected by the cookie choice above: they are part of the signup form itself, and you only meet them by choosing to use it.
Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, which removes you from the list. You can also ask us to delete your address at any time using the contact route below.
Other services this page relies on
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives a request from your browser in order to serve them. This happens on every page and is not covered by the consent choice above, because the site cannot render without its typefaces.
The signup form is the one other place a third party is contacted; see "Signing up for updates" above.
Your rights
If you are in a jurisdiction with data-protection rights such as the UK or EU, you have the right to ask what is held about you, to request deletion, and to object to processing. In practice our records are anonymous and rotate, so there is usually nothing that can be tied back to an individual — but if you have a concern, contact us and we will look into it.

Changes
Where this page changes materially, the change is published here. This version reflects the consent gate introduced in September 2026, which replaced an earlier setup where measurement loaded automatically. It was updated on 29 September 2026 to describe the signup page and the services it uses, and again the same day when the signup form was added to the homepage.
