People in the world have far more important issues to focus on than Palestine.
A televised genocide, live-streamed by its victims sets a precedent that reaches every person on earth, not only Palestinians. The institutions built to prevent exactly this have failed to stop it. The consequence is not confined to Gaza. When the ICJ, the UN Charter, and the Geneva Conventions can be openly torn apart with no cost, the entire framework of international law that supposedly protects everyone collapses. Palestine is where the rules supposedly protecting all of us are being applied with different standards and tested to destruction.
The genocide would not be possible without the active complicity of a wide network of states, institutions, and individuals globally. It is fueled and sustained by the weapons, funding, intelligence, and diplomatic cover supplied by governments across the world, and by every company, university, and institution that maintains ties with the colonial regime and its economy. Those who arm it, trade with it, and shield it from accountability are participants in what it does. To say Palestine is a distant issue ignores that the taxes, pensions, and institutions of people far from the region are materially wired into the machinery of the genocide.
The core issue is not one state but the ideology and model it carries. Zionism is larger than Israel: it is one expression of a global system of racial domination, dispossession, and militarised control that operates against the less privileged everywhere. The Israeli apparatus tests its technologies, methods and models on Palestinians and then exports them to the world. The same system that dispossesses Palestinians and drives the surveillance and killing technologies tested in Gaza are sold to police forces repressing protests, to border-control trapping migrants. This exported model ranks some lives above others across the globe. Palestine is not an isolated cause competing for attention with other struggles. It is a front line of the same fight against imperialism and racism that shapes the lives of oppressed people everywhere. Standing in solidarity with Palestine is not a diversion from other issues. It is a recognition that these systems are connected, and that none of the oppressed are free until the structures oppressing all of them are dismantled.
